What this site is
CoastErosionCheck reports historical shoreline-change rates from USGS's public transect data for stretches of the US coast. It is informational only and is not a substitute for a site-specific coastal engineering survey, which only a licensed engineer or surveyor can provide for one property.
No warranty on the figures
Every figure traces to a named USGS Open-File Report, but the underlying surveys vary in vintage by region (see the survey vintage guide) and cover a ~3.5-mile segment, not one address. Nothing on this site is guaranteed to match the erosion rate for a specific parcel, and no result here should be the sole basis for a purchase, insurance, construction, or armoring decision.
No professional advice
Nothing on this site is engineering, insurance, financial, or legal advice. Whether a property needs a seawall, riprap, or beach nourishment should be confirmed with a licensed coastal engineer, not assumed from this site's segment-level historical rate.
